Glasgow
& District Amal
Serving the third biggest City in the UK
after London
and Birmingham,
and with members in Dumfries to
the South, and Stornoway to the North, Glasgow is
one of the largest CWU Branches in the UK,
both in terms of membership and in geographical area. The former site of the Regional Office, Glasgow
has been instrumental in developing Union policy over the years and
influencing the working lives of members throughout Scotland.

Amal
Stretching from the Scottish Border, and taking in the
two North East Cities of Sunderland
and Newcastle,
this Branch has two of the largest offices in the UK. Newcastle Amal has a reputation for
looking after its minority grades.

Lancs & Cumbria
Vies with Glasgow for the title of largest geographical
area, North Lancs & Cumbria are represented by Andy Tatchell, who is one
of the few Counters members in the UK to also hold the position of Branch
Secretary.

Durham
County Amal
Covering a pircuresque part of the North East, including
Consett, Chester-le-Street
and Durham,
members of this Branch live in an area steeped in history. Durham County Amal have produced well
reknowned Union Reps in the past, including Kevin Storey, former UCW National
Auditor.

Amal
Darlington
has two Branch Offices – Northallerton and Darlington. Politically, the Branch area covers the

Cleveland
Amal
In a highly industrialised area on the traditional border
between the counties of Yorkshire
and Durham,
the six offices in the Branch Area have a reputation for participating in
the affairs of the union. Prior to
the 1992 reorganisation, Cleveland’s
Roy Ward was the UCW Counters Organiser in the former District.

District Amal
Given that it has five Branch Offices, York covers a huge
geographical area, spanning from the coastal resorts Scarborough and
Bridlington, to the historic City of York and the town of Harrogate, and as
far south as Selby.

Hull
& East Ridings Amal
This Branch covers three very different offices. Jameson
Street is a typical City Centre
office, whilst Bransholme has traditionally served a high proportion of
Benefits customers. Beverley is
different again, set in a picturesque country town.

Covering the two cities of Leeds
and Bradford, Leeds No1 has the largest
Counters Section in the North East, and is the site of the former North
East Regional Office (Another impressive Post Office building lost to the
developers)

Merseyside
Amal
Liverpool
has always had its own unique personality, passion and social
conscience. Merseyside Amal shows that
this tradition continues within the CWU, and gave to the Union
its General Secretary Billy Hayes, its Senior DGS, Tony Kearns, as well as
the late Arthur McGuinness (both Tony and Arthur came from the Counters
side of the Union)

Greater
Manchester Amal
The largest Counters membership in the North, and well represented
over the years by a succession of dedicated representatives, Greater
Manchester Amal takes in a wide area, including Bolton, Stockport
and Oldham. With Manchester being the site of the
former Regional Office, the Branch have made sure over the years that the
CWU is well involved in influencing decisions that matter.

North
East No1
Now with only two Offices left, North east No1 still
represents members in the two different counties of South
Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. With the major fishing port
of Grimsby on
the coast, and the Yorkshire City of Doncaster inland, North East No1 build
on these cultures to give proper representation to its members.

Yorks & Dist Amal
The crooked spire of Chesterfield is
a stones throw away from Future Walk, formerly Chetwynd House. Inspired by former MP and Postmaster
General Tony Benn, Chesterfield
showed that Head Office did not have to be in London to
be successful. The Branch has four
Branch Offices, in Sheffield, Chesterfield, Barnsley
and Rotherham.
