Royal Mail Welcomes DTI Proposals for Post Office

Royal Mail today welcomed yesterday’s DTI statement on the future of the Post Office Network.  The plans, which are to go to public consultation, would see an investment of £1.7bn to 2011, whilst reducing the community network by 2,500 branches.

Royal Mail believe that the investment will enable post office modernisation, allow expansion of financial services, and will see the introduction of 4,000 free to use ATMs, whilst at the same time covering ongoing losses whilst the plans are delivered.

Royal Mail see the creation of at least 500 Outreach services as the way to create a sustainable network in the wake of the 2,500 proposed branch closures.
