A former Counters Secretary for the Greater Manchester Amal Branch, Angela joined the Post Office in 1973, starting on the counter at Cheadle Post Office, joining the UPW (Union of Postal Workers) on the same day. Angela moved to Ashton-under-Lyne Post Office in 1974 becoming the local representative in the late 1990s.

Angela became Section Secretary for Greater Manchester in 2001 and held that role until it was abolished as part of the restructuring as part of the Industrial Relations Framework Agreement 2010, when she took on the role of Area Representative for the Greater Manchester Area
